Estrogen & Progesterone

August 30, 2018 by Abby

Estrogen & ProgesteroneWe all can agree that hormones play a huge factor in our body and how we are able to deal with our mood, our energy, our PMS symptoms, and sex drive, but do you know which is with and why it’s important to have a good balance? Let’s chat about it!

Estrogen

  • Increased Water Retention
  • Influences Mood, Depression, PMS
  • Promotes Body Fat (hips/midsection)
  • Decreased Libido
  • Impairs Thyroid Function
  • Impairs Blood Sugar
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Builds up Uterine Lining
  • Increases Risk of Breast Cancer and Endometrial Cancer

Progesterone

  • Natural Diuretic
  • Natural Antidepressant
  • Boost Body Temperature and Metabolism
  • Promotes Healthy Libido and Sex Drive
  • Promotes Healthy Thyroid Function
  • Promotes Healthy Blood Sugar Levels
  • Maintains Uterine Lining
  • Protects from Breast Cancer and Endometrial Cancer

As you can see comparing the lists to each other chances are if you are struggling with your weight, mood, and sex drive chances are you are estrogen dominant, meaning you have more estrogen working through your body then progesterone. You want to think of them as a balance scale if you’re doing things to increase your estrogen your progesterone cant keep up causing the scale to become off balance and causing your honorees to start functioning incorrectly. How do we do this in our daily lives?

Causes:

  • Toxins and Chemicals in
  • Hair Products,
  • Cleaning products
  • Skincare and makeup
  • Plastic food containers
  • Plastic Water bottles
  • Hormonal Birth Control
You want to think of them as a balance scale,
So how do we take steps to fix this? Well, start by talking to your Dr about another form of birth control that does not have hormones. Working on your nutrition and gut health focusing on balancing blood sugar by eating whole foods, minimizing caffeine and alcohol, eating 30-40g of fiber.  The focus on minimizing your stress, and sleeping 8-10 hours. Change out your nasty household cleaners, skin products and the plastics you store your food and water in.  Consume lots of water and exercise. Sounds simple enough? If your hormones are WAY out of wack this can take time. Like I have stated many times fixing these issues is not a quick fix, it can take time, stick with it and rebalance your hormones and your goals will all start coming together.
